Yes, to a large extent. The semi-sheer finish of our Deluxe Unbreakable tights lays a perfectly even layer of colour over the leg: the small imperfections that can bother us soften, blend into the whole, and the leg still looks completely natural.
Stretch marks, dimpling, scars, small marks: nearly everybody has them. But on the days you would rather not think about them, a good pair settles the question in ten seconds. Here is how it does that, and how to choose the pair that does it best.
How do semi-sheer tights soften imperfections?
Through optics, not compression. The knit lays a continuous veil of colour between the skin and the eye. That veil does two things at once: it diffuses light instead of letting it bounce off every contour, and it reduces the contrast between the different tones of the skin. And it is contrast that makes a mark visible, far more than the contour itself.
The result: what used to stand out blends in. Not by changing anything about the skin, but by changing what the eye takes in, which is exactly the effect you are after.
What does that look like in practice?
| What bothers you | What the semi-sheer finish does |
|---|---|
| Stretch marks | The lighter line blends into the overall tone and stops standing out |
| Dimpling and cellulite | Light is diffused rather than bounced back in points: the surface reads smooth |
| Scars | The difference in tone softens under the layer of colour |
| Redness and small marks | Evened out, and this is where the effect is clearest |
| Uneven tone from one leg to the other | The leg takes one single colour, from the top all the way to the foot |
It is a visual effect, and that is the right word: nothing is treated or transformed, it is the appearance that changes. That is also why it is immediate and why it holds all day.
Which shade covers best?
The darker the shade and the denser the knit, the more even the finish. The Deluxe Unbreakable Black is the most effective in the catalogue on this point, and it is our best seller.
If you want something more discreet, a well-chosen nude does the same work while keeping the colour of your own skin: there are three, and for deeper skin tones, the nude is brown. It is not a substitute shade, it is the right shade. The detail is in Choosing the right nude.
Does the result still look natural?
Yes, and that is the whole difference between semi-sheer tights and opaque ones. Opaque hides the leg and reads as a garment. Semi-sheer lets enough skin through that you read a leg, not a layer of fabric. You see the leg; you do not see what was bothering you in front of the mirror.
The photo on this article shows it well: a nude sunkissed worn from the top of the thigh down to the foot, one single continuous tone, and a leg that looks like a leg. That is the whole point of a well-chosen nude, and it is exactly the effect we are talking about.
Which model gives more hold?
If you want hold as well, the catalogue has two answers.
- The Classics with Shorts have a built-in shorts panel, more opaque than the rest of the tights, stopping just below the bottom. It is the only Signé Sarah model with that effect.
- The Prima Durables have a wider, softer waistband, for a smooth line without the look of a shorts panel.
One useful point: these are comfort and appearance garments. Neither one is a medical compression garment, and we do not present them as one.
Does size change anything?
Enormously, and it is the most underrated factor of all. A pair that is too small is stretched further: the knit opens up, the veil thins, and it covers far less well. It pinches and wears out faster on top of that.
The right size gives you the density the pair was designed for, and therefore the finish it was designed for. It comes from two measurements, your height and your hip measurement, keeping the larger of the two. Weight never comes into the calculation here. The size calculator does it in ten seconds, the full chart is in our size guide, and it runs from S to 4XL: see Plus size tights.
Where do you start?
With a pair of Deluxe Unbreakable Black in your size. It is the most even finish in the catalogue, the easiest shade to wear, and the starting point we recommend for a first pair.
After that, colour is chosen with the outfit rather than with the mirror: our article Which colour of tights should you choose this autumn? handles that.
